Die ABU Cardinal 354, Built by Abu Sweden, wurde im Napp och Nytt Katalog 1982 vorgestellt und gab es nur ein Jahr lang.
Die Cardinal Modelle mit der 3 an erster Stelle, hatten eine ganz große Besonderheit, es wurde keine Petticoatspule verwendet, sondern die alte Form, der Cardinal 4, letzte Version! Außerdem waren diese Modelle leicht vereinfachte Modelle, vom Getriebe her. Und man konnte die Kurbel, nicht wahlweise auf beiden Seiten anbringen, was in meinen Augen ein großer Vorteil war, denn dadurch, hatte man nicht das Problem das sich die Kurbel ständig lockerten, oder die zu dünne Kurbelachse sich verbog!

Die Rolle ist eigentlich in einem schönen Zustand, aber der Aufkleber hat ein paar leichte Kratzer.
Aber man erkennt aber auch gut, das der Rotor, eine ganz andere Form hat wie bei der 54 + 154 + 554 !

Das Getriebe ist ganz ähnlich wie von der 154, aber dennoch gibt es einige große Unterschiede. Grüner Pfeil: Nur eine Stützscheibe. Blauer Pfeil: Das Andrucklager ist nicht vernickelt. Roter Pfeil: Das Knarrenrad ist aus Metall. Und noch einige kleine Unterschiede, auf die ich aber nicht näher eingehen möchte !

Warum genau ABU sich zu diesem Schritt damals entschlossen hat, kann man nur vermutet werden? Aber es war auf jeden Fall teuer , ein völlig neuer Rotor musste konstruiert und produziert werden! Vielleicht war es deshalb, damit sich die „älteren“ Angler nicht umgewöhnen mussten, oder man hatte noch Zuviel der alten Spulen am Lager , keine Ahnung ?

Why exactly ABU decided to take this step back then can only be speculated. But it was certainly expensive, a completely new rotor had to be designed and produced! Perhaps it was so that the „older“ anglers wouldn’t have to get used to a new system, or maybe they still had too many of the old spools in stock, who knows?
